Tommy and Nefti have been the definitions of idealism. They are two people working very hard together to make a life within the boundaries of idyllic moral and spiritual constraints. When their stable world crashes head-on with evil forces whose boundaries are never found, something has to give. Immediately, previous stability is transformed into chaos and the question of what wins is in real doubt. Does light over come darkness, or, does darkness close out the light and set new, much wider vistas for hate and destruction? Are new boundaries set for Tommy or Nefti? Donnybarker comments, 'The presence of evil in the world is a difficult topic that I have undertaken in Tommy III. Ths exploration has widened my vistas of writing, but yet maintained the characters my readers have grown to love in my previous three novels.
